Ages 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13+:
In this class, we focus on singing, dancing, and expressing ourselves through music. We use music from our favourite top 40 artists, Musical Theatre shows, and movies. We test our aural skills through singing harmonies. We learn how to express ourselves through movement. We also encourage solo singing, all in a safe, fun and nurturing environment. Working together in groups improve empathy, social skills, team building, and self-confidence. We build friendships to last us a lifetime.
Drama
Skills of the Theatre & Improv & Acting
Ages 6-8, 9-12, 13+:
In this class, we focus on scenes, monologues and short plays to learn how to develop a character, project vocally and connect emotionally with a character and an audience. We play theatre games for bringing out our best, most open self; we play strength and character building exercises to improve confidence and stage presence; we create honest and believable characters, big or small; we create intimate, emotional scenes; all in a safe, fun and nurturing environment. This class is about sharing stories, developing empathy and learning about yourself, while also practicing discipline, responsibility, and respect.
Adult Choir
Sing & Take Time For YOU
Ages 19+:
Mark your calendar for Monday nights, 8:30-9:30pm. After the kids go to bed, work is finished or school is out, we have fun. Mom’s living vicariously through your kids, now you don’t have to! Students needing a break? Once a week, take some time for you. We will sing music from our favorite top 40 artists, oldies, Musical Theatre shows, movies--Courtney takes requests! No experience necessary. No reason to feel shy. This is all about having a stress free, good time. We encourage solo singing in a safe, encouraging environment. Best part? We build friendships to last us a winetime. I mean, a lifetime.
Sincerely,
Courtney Fowler

New Beginnings
There is a lot going on here at CFVS.
Courtney is organizing her April and May shows. We are studying Grease, Matilda, Annie, The Little Mermaid and we are creating a TROLLS section for our show… She cannot wait. The excitement is in the air.
Courtney is also working closely with WVHS to produce NOT MYSELF TODAY. This is the third time her little musical has been produced in Newfoundland. This time she is working with their entire school (music, tech, art, drama, theatre arts, etc) to bring this show to life.

That's a wrap!
We had an extremely successful first year at Courtney FOWLER VOICE Studio. Allow me to let you in on our accomplishments:
In December 2013, we went carolling at Admirals Coast Retirement Centre and held a Winter Recital at Suncor Energy Hall at the School of Music, where we performed group and solo work.
In February 2014, students sang in the Kiwanis Music Festival, both competitive and non competitive; special congratulations to Nathan Mackey who placed first in his Musical Theatre Solo class.
In May, we held an afternoon of Folk/Traditional Songs at Meadowcreek Retirement Centre.
In June, we launched our annual Cabaret at Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre. This was an evening dedicated to showcasing individual talents as well as showing how strongly we worked as a group. Students picked most of the song selections for the evening, often accompanying themselves and others. When they weren't leading the song, they were harmonizing, accompanying, or being cheerleaders for the rest of the group. Each took their turn in the spot light, and supported others as they did the same. We had refreshments, and tables set up for guests where they could relax while enjoying the show. The show was two acts of Musical Theatre, Pop, Indie and Alternative music - quite the accomplishment, especially since for some students, it was their first time part of a big show like this. Congrats to all the students who prepared and worked hard for this event. Thanks to all the volunteers, parents, and loved ones who made this night possible for us. I'm happy to say that my first show of this calibre was a huge success. This event was also not-for-profit, so I was able to give away three two hundred dollar tuition vouchers to three lucky students whose names were drawn out of my returning students.
As for me, I managed to run my studio as well as perform in Wizard Of Oz, Freckleface Strawberry, Les Miserables, and put off a Cabaret titled "SUIT UP!" for Best Kind Productions that featured myself and Megan Barnes for a night of Musical Theatre tunes.
I'm very pleased with my work, my students and want to give each and every one of you a huge pat on the back. We have all worked so hard. A beautiful wrap to the 2013-2014 season. I can't wait to start again in September--we have 7 new students joining us in the fall and I can't wait to work with them and make them part of this encouraging, supportive family that we've built.
All the best,
Courtney Fowler

reminders
Students and parents,
I'm so happy to announce I have a full studio of 23 students this year!
Very excited to see new faces and old friends this Tuesday for our first day of lessons.
Once my studio is sparkly clean, I'll have some new pictures for the blog. I've moved my upright piano into my studio, mainly for my students taking piano lessons, and it's exciting!
Reminder: To speed the registration process along and to save time at your first lesson, please print and fill out your registration forms in advance and bring them to your first lesson with your payment. The registration fee must be added to your first payment. Thank you!
Now, I'll leave you with this:
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
